HomeResponsibilityEquitable Access to MedicinesPfizer's Partnership with ZiplinePfizer's Partnership with Zipline Nearly 2 billion people, globally, have no access to essential medicines.1 That's why Pfizer and BioNTech collaborated with Zipline, and their partners - including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Gavi Alliance, and the UPS foundation.

The aim: to pioneer a new model for vaccine delivery, with the first use of long-range, autonomous drones to facilitate access to remote areas of the world.

Due to the ultra-cold chain requirements certain vaccines, including some COVID-19 vaccines, are transported in specially developed thermal packaging, which is designed to withstand extreme winter or summer temperatures. These packaging solutions help to ensure that the vials remain at the required temperature.2

Through close collaboration with the Ghanaian government, this innovative method facilitated the delivery of over 50,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 4.5 million doses of other vaccines, from multiple manufacturers, across Ghana.3

This collaboration exemplifies the power of public-private partnerships in overcoming infrastructure and supply chain challenges, particularly in remote communities. Pfizer remains committed to evolving and discovering new ways to increase access to vaccines and medicines worldwide.
