Onballa UK app launched to help patients with alopecia areata
Pfizer UK officially launches a new app designed to support people with alopecia areata.
It’s estimated that about 1 in every 4,000 people develop alopecia areata each year in the UK.1 The condition can often be overwhelming and has been linked to a 30-38% higher risk of depression and a 33% increased risk of developing anxiety.2 It’s therefore vital that patients are supported during their journey with alopecia areata.

The Onballa UK app is a support tool packed with features designed to help patients navigate daily life with alopecia areata including:
  • Hair Gallery: Get a clear picture of your alopecia areata with a dedicated space to capture, view, and track your hair loss or growth over time.
  • Mood Tracker: Track how you are feeling to understand the personal impact of your condition on your life, and identify any trends in your mood.
  • Doctor Discussion Reports: Create personalised reports of your Hair Gallery & Mood Tracker entries to support conversations with your doctor about the impact of your condition in your next consultation.
  • Well-being Exercises: Access a library of wellness tips and exercises and take time to focus on your personal well-being.
  • Resources: Learn more about alopecia areata with a collection of articles, videos, and stories from those living with your condition.
  • Support: Find support, advice, and advocates from communities in your area.

"Onballa can help people document their hair loss and emotions, empowering them to have better conversations with their doctors about all of their symptoms, not just the progression of their hair loss. Though designed for alopecia areata, its hair gallery, mood tracker, and mental health support may benefit anyone living with any type of alopecia."
Sue Shilling, CEO, Alopecia UK
