Volunteering and fundraising

Our colleagues are committed to giving back to the local community.

Pfizer Global Site & Study Operations team, based in Sandwich, help out at Louie's Helping Hands in Margate, Kent.

We passionately believe in using our people and resources to make a positive impact in the communities in which we work - here are some of the ways we're supporting our local community.

Volunteer programme

Every year, we provide up to five days of paid volunteering leave to all Pfizer colleagues and we actively encourage everyone to get involved, individually or as a team.

Designed to support Pfizer colleagues’ volunteering activities, our volunteer programme allows colleagues to dedicate their time, expertise and experience to help non-profit organisations solve their most pressing problems, whilst also giving them the opportunity to develop their own skills and knowledge. Each colleague can choose to either support a charity or cause close to their heart, work with organisations local to our UK sites or fundraise for those in need.

Our volunteering activities -

  • Support UK-registered charities, disadvantaged groups or sometimes schools and colleges through our SIP and STEM programmes.
  • Can be based on practical skills, including garden clearing, painting and decorating.
  • Can be based on knowledge-sharing, such as business planning, marketing or careers advice.

In 2019, our UK colleagues donated 6,658 hours of their time to a variety of organisations across the UK.

Fundraising and giving

As well as our volunteering programme, we also match colleague fundraising activities of up to £150 per colleague each year, participate in national events such as Comic Relief and offer payroll-giving for colleagues who wish to donate to the charities they care most about.

We also run a Christmas Giving programme across our UK sites, including 'drop-offs' for seasonal food donations and financial support to local food banks.

Some of our volunteering and fundraising stories

Colleagues Navin & Denise have offered their continued support to the PSP Association, based in Milton Keynes.

"It's been a real privilege working with the PSP Association; a charity very close to my heart. I'm going to use my volunteering time to raise awareness amongst healthcare professionals and policy makers of this severely debilitating condition, as well as helping families navigate the health and social care system to ensure they can access the most appropriate care."

Navin Sewak, Payer Evidence, Health & Value, Pfizer UK

Our South-East sales team lent a helping hand to the Sussex Wildlife Trust during their Great British Beach Clean Weekend at the Seven Sisters cliffs, East Sussex.

"Working as a team with two living seas officers from the Wildlife Trust, we collected plastics of all shapes and sizes, totalling at 6kg of rubbish. The charity plans to input these results into a national database to help prevent major problems for marine wildlife which can get entangled in litter."

Mike Southam, Network & Sales Specialist, Pfizer UK

Yousaf Aftab, Affiliate Quality Operations, puts his five volunteering days towards his work with Humanity First.

"As a trained pharmacist, I spent two weeks in Nepal with Humanity First, providing medical aid after the earthquake in 2015. I later visited the United Nations to provide insight into disaster response and risk reduction. It's fantastic to work for a company where we can contribute beyond the day job"

Our Scotland-based field team spent the day with Ninewells Hospital Community Garden in Dundee.

“We’re really lucky to work for an organisation that supports volunteering and gives its employees the opportunity to work with local charities. Spending time together as a team not only strengthens our team culture, we hope our collective efforts also made a positive difference to the patients and visitors that use the garden.”

Iain Wallace, Senior Hospital Representative, Pfizer UK

Mark Phillipson, Global Commerical Operations Lead, helped the team at Solving Kids Cancer to develop their business plan.

"We sometimes take for granted the resources we have in Pfizer, so it was a great opportunity to help a smaller organisation accelerate their work. Working with such kind and passionate people trying to achieve incredible things was really inspiring - a fantastic and rewarding experience"
