Specifically, our internal medicine business unit will consider applications for research, education, and service improvement in the following areas in relation to headache:

Quality Improvement

• Best practice and quality improvement activities aligned with the GIRFT (Getting It Right First Time) Neurology 2021 Report recommendations in headache
• Best practices and quality improvement activities in the development of integrated headache services in the community, aligned with NHS Integrated Care Systems plans and the GIRFT Neurology 2021 Report recommendations
• Optimisation of acute treatment and / or preventative treatment of migraine in primary care
• Best practices in the implementation of the National Neurosciences Advisory Group (NNAG) Headache and Facial Pain Pathway February 2023
• Best practices in the implementation of NHS priorities in relation to the Community Pharmacy Consultation Service and headache

Education

• Novel education activities to support GIRFT Neurology 2021 Report recommendations in primary care
• Support novel education activities for community pharmacists who are supporting patients with their migraine
• Cost effective education activities targeting a wide audience of health professionals involved in the managed of patients with headache

Patient Activities

• Patient experience of migraine in the UK
• Impact of ethnicity, gender or access and other inequalities on migraine care
• Women’s health and migraine / headache

Real World Evidence

• Real world effectiveness of oral migraine therapies in UK clinical practice
• Medication Overuse Headache and migraine treatment
• Digital Innovation in migraine care
• Improved diagnosis and/or treatment of migraine in the UK

Examples may include grant requests to support independent accredited education, quality improvement or research that are intended to improve patient outcomes in areas of unmet medical need.

For all independent medical grants, the grant recipient is responsible for the design, implementation, sponsorship, and conduct of the independent initiative supported by the grant, including compliance with any regulatory requirements.
