Independent Medical Grants

Pfizer supports the submission of grant requests from healthcare organisations to support the independent medical and/or scientific initiatives of that healthcare organisation, that are aligned to Pfizer's medical and/or scientific strategies.

The broad therapy areas that Pfizer is currently working within include: Inflammation and Immunology, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Rare Diseases and Vaccines.

To discuss your potential independent medical grant application, please phone 01304 616161 and ask to speak to a member of the medical affairs team within your therapy area of interest.

Examples may include grant requests to support independent accredited education, quality improvement or research that are intended to improve patient outcomes in areas of unmet medical need.

For all independent medical grants, the grant recipient is responsible for the design, implementation, sponsorship, and conduct of the independent initiative supported by the grant, including compliance with any regulatory requirements.

Pfizer must not be involved in any aspect of project development, nor its conduct or monitoring.

Types of Independent Medical Grant applications that Pfizer UK may consider:

This type of medical grant is Pfizer funding to support independent projects for systematic and continuous actions that lead to measurable improvement in health care services and the health status of individuals and targeted patient groups and do not relate to a Pfizer asset. Quality improvement considers aspects of quality such as clinical competence, outcomes and process assessment, program evaluation, quality indicators, and quality assurance using methodologically rigorous protocols with an endpoint goal of readiness for application to practice.

This type of medical grant is Pfizer funding to support independent accredited medical education activities or initiatives which serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills, and/or professional performance of a healthcare professional (e.g. continuing medical education, continuing health education, continuing education).

This type of medical grant is Pfizer funding to support a general research project focused on the development or refinement of specific and defined medical knowledge that does not include the study of a Pfizer asset. It includes health services research, registry development and/or queries and outcomes research unrelated to a Pfizer asset.

Types of Independent Medical Grants that Pfizer Inc. may consider:

This is a type of medical grant that supports an independent research study where the investigator and / or organisation is the sponsor of the study and where Pfizer provides financial and/or non-financial support for the development or refinement of specific and defined medical knowledge relating to a Pfizer asset.

This global program is open to all researchers who are interested in conducting their own research. This grant type is used as support for pre-clinical and clinical studies (including interventional and non-interventional), that involve a Pfizer asset.

This involves a publicly posted Request for Proposal (RFP) that provides detail regarding a specific area of interest, sets timelines for review and approval, and uses an external review panel (ERP) to make final grant decisions. Healthcare Organisations are invited to apply where their application addresses specific gaps in research, practice or care as outlined in the specific RFP. Please note that all RFPs may not be open to applications from UK Healthcare Organisations.
