What Pfizer does at Walton Oaks

In December 2001, we moved to a £75 million UK commercial Headquarters at Walton Oaks in Surrey, which was officially opened in October 2002. An ideal location close to London, the M25, the Thames Valley and major British airports, The Walton Oaks site allows the organisation to get closer to its business partners, a higher density of customers and the seat of Government. The offices sit in the heart of a 320-acre estate that nestles in the Surrey countryside. You’ll enter the building via a modern three-story entrance foyer, from where the glazed scenic lift can be taken. Immediately behind the lift is the main curved communal area called the ‘Street’. Within this area there is a staff shop, gym facilities, a large restaurant and deli bar. Leading off from the central area are a range of breakout areas and meeting spaces that allow staff to work away from their desks.

However, Walton Oaks is far more than a building. The working environment fosters a 'can do' attitude that is proving to be an important catalyst for ongoing change and growth within the organisation. The building encourages relaxed professionalism and reflects the company’s philosophy of appropriate work/life balance.

It was the coupling of the innovative design and construction quality of Walton Oaks that led to the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) presenting their prestigious design award to Pfizer Limited in June 2002. The RIBA jury commented that:

“This was an exceptionally good piece of commercial architecture and that the conviction and commitment to quality which it demonstrates should be firmly encouraged”. (RIBA Journal, July 2002)
