The INSPIRE Programme
Through Pfizer’s INSPIRE programme (Investigator Networks, Site Partnerships and Infrastructure for Research Excellence) we create strategic partnerships to ensure we focus our efforts in places where the most impactful and successful research is conducted around the world.
INSPIRE sites are part of Pfizer’s international network of preferred locations for clinical research, helping to bring innovative medicines to patients in the UK and around the world. There are currently over 90 Pfizer INSPIRE sites across the world, three of which are now in the UK, at Newcastle, Scotland and Bath.
Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was the very first clinical research organisation in the UK to be awarded INSPIRE site status. Under the INSPIRE programme, Pfizer and Newcastle Hospitals Trust share expert knowledge and experience of medicines research.
Further boosting Scotland’s reputation as a global centre of excellence for research, four health boards (NHS Grampian, Greater Glasgow &Clyde, Lothian and Tayside) now stand as a Pfizer INSPIRE site having met a series of strict criteria and shown that they are a highly productive and effective site for medicines research and development.
In Bath, INSPIRE has partnered with BARONET, Bath Area Research Organisation Network, which is the first UK primary care organisation to enter a partnership like this with Pfizer. As such, patients in Bath will be among the first in the world to trial new treatments thanks to this innovative local research partnership, unique to the UK.
INSPIRE not only benefits patients, but the programme is designed to facilitate research and innovation in the UK, and supports the government’s ambition to make the UK a world leader in life sciences.
