Pfizer’s environmental, health and safety (EHS) performance goes well beyond pure compliance with stringent regulatory and legal requirements. Over the last ten years Pfizer has reduced its immediate impact on air, water and soil significantly. But more than that, Pfizer has also introduced state-of-the–art programmes such as the Green Transport Scheme which have a beneficial effect on the environment.
Our main environmental impact comes from our Sandwich site in Kent where we use significant amounts of energy and water, cause emissions to the air and are responsible for the unavoidable production of various types of waste. We manage all our impacts on the environment with the help of externally accredited EHS Management Systems and Standards such as ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
The environmental impact of our Walton Oaks site is much more limited. We have a comprehensive waste reduction and recycling programme in place which includes on-site waste segregation. We also aim to reduce the use of energy at Walton Oaks and actively encourage our employees to do the same in their own homes.
Pfizer is well aware that, in spite of having tackled our main environmental challenges until now, our challenges are ever increasing. Our objective is to seek continual improvements in our environmental performance as well as maintaining the high standards which we have already achieved.
