People Development

Our culture guarantees your growth:

We have an ethos of continual learning, which is viewed as critical to our business and your personal growth. Learning requires a partnership between the organisation and you, which you will experience as a Development Plan, a wide range of training opportunities specific to your role, and challenging on-the-job experience. This rich mix of learning tools addresses both your short-term needs and longer term talent development.

The types of training you’ll encounter:

Pfizer aims to make training accessible to all colleagues. In-house training ranges from 90-minute bite-sized 'workouts' to leadership programmes that run over 15 months. We strive to utilise different learning styles and approaches, including technology, simulation exercises and team-building techniques.

So you can expect to use a comprehensive and diverse set of resources, including web accessible information, tools, books and expert contacts. We’ll support you with training at key transitions in your career here, starting with induction through to key role changes such as moving into a people-manager role for the first time. Where justified and relevant to your development, Further and Higher Education opportunities, such as studying for an MBA, are supported.

An open-enrolment curriculum is provided, bringing together colleagues from the many and varied professions within each Pfizer division. In addition to internally delivered training that draws from the wealth of subject matter expertise within Pfizer, external vendors, including world-class business schools, consultancies and cutting-edge companies, are regularly invited to share their knowledge with us.

We care about your interpersonal and leadership skills just as much as your professional and technical skills. After all, we’re looking for the leaders of the future. Many leadership courses are cross-divisional and draw delegates from multiple countries, providing additional networking and collaboration opportunities. All learning is linked with developing the explicit Pfizer Leader Behaviours.

We’re learning every day:

Don’t assume that coaching can only be given by your line manager. Coaching can happen between any two people, on any topic, big or small. This is supported in many ways including peer to peer, manager to colleague and external executive coaching. We also place huge value on on-the-job experiences. For instance, you may be given challenging assignments and projects to complete, the feedback from which will help you build on your strengths and highlight ongoing development needs. Role models can be assigned whom you can watch, listen, discuss with and learn from. Secondments are also used as a method of development, as is team working. You really do learn a new thing every day here.
